2021 is the most challenging year for our company due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in our country. Malaysia is one of the most seriously affected countries where many people have been infected and even died from this pandemic, while our company is forced to close again for 3 months due to FMCO being implemented.
During this hard time, a heavy blow to many company’s business performances. However, our company’s core philosophy is based on the consideration of “the right way as a human”, rather than “the best way for us as a human”. Frankly speaking, it will be most beneficial for the company that everyone’s salary is halved or not paid during the company closure period as it can retain a large amount of cash flow in the company. However, management had decided to choose another way which is “the right way as a human”. While our company is still able to sustain the cash flow, the company still maintain to issue salary to all our employees as usual, so that everyone is wouldn’t worry about their livelihood during the fight against this pandemic. This is what our bosses, think to be the most correct way.
When our company resume operation, there is a lot of new SOP needed to be implemented in the company. Every employee needs to be tested with Covid Test Kit before resuming work in an office, and this needs to be done once a week. Again, this required large spending of money in order to buy the test kits. Some of our colleagues even feel distressed and worried, whether this spending will increase the company’s burden? Our CEO Mr Ngeow was so grateful that the company is having these employees who are considerate of the company.
However, the company management valued the employees’ safety much more priority than expenses. We believed that we were still able to work hard to earn back this money later. If a company just thinks about saving money without bordering the employees’ safety, it is not fulfilling the value “to make the right decision as a human”.
Nevertheless, the company had started facing the loss of business now. So, what is the next step? In fact, I would like to express gratitude to many of our colleagues for taking various initiatives for company operation during the period when we just resumed operation. For example, Warehouse staff, drivers, Production workers, and some Salespeople who volunteer to deliver goods to nearby customers in person. Sales and Credit Control department who worked hard to collect the debts, and even successfully collected the debts on monthly basis during the FMCO period; some staffs from Invoicing department returned to the company to prepare customers’ documents; Finance department also worked hard to improve the Easy Sales system; HR department who arrange the salary payout on time; Digital Marketing team who has never stopped producing online marketing content. For all those efforts contributed, we are starting to see good results.
During this period, all the heads of the department also kept learning and having discussions regarding our goal assessment system and how to set the company’s future goals, so that all employees can be clearer about their work goals. Although it seems that nothing is able to be done due to company closure during the FMCO period, there are actually a group of colleagues who continue to contribute for the sake of the company and everyone.
Most people think that this pandemic is a disaster. However, Mr Ngeow would consider it as a challenge, a catalyst that promotes our rapid progress, rapid change, and rapid growth. He has always said that we should have Digital Marketing for our company but there is nothing done even after several years. But now we are speeding up the improvement of our Digital Marketing. We started to establish it in March 2021 and now it is getting better and better.
Meanwhile, our Automatic system is also close to perfection now; we have also clarified the company’s vision, mission and values; we have starting to utilise more technology system, just like our improvement in organizing 923 Anniversary celebration via online which is very match to our theme for this year “Conquer New Challenge With New Way, Celebrate New Hope With New United Efforts”. Trouble and challenge are not scary as long as we are able to deal with them with bravery and a truthful attitude.
